University profile: Calligraphy course (1)

Today was the first calligraphy course of the semester. I really enjoyed it!

In this course, my teachers don't speak English. So in the begining, it was hard to communicate. But after few classes and thanks to their patience, I managed to understand how to draw characters.

It can seems simple but it's definitely not as easy as you might think. It requires patience and a lot of training. In fact, you must keep your back straight and hold your brush with only three fingers (thum, index and the middle finger). You have to adjust the pressure, the angle and the amount of ink on your brush for each character.

Calligraphy (shūfǎ 書法 in chinese), is an important aspect of the Asian culture. The technique, styles and influences differs depending on each country. That way, brushes, papers and the density and color of the ink can change from a century to another. In fact, those factors influence the final result.
