Geopolitics: Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial (3)

The National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall is a national monument, built in 1980 in the center of Taipei in memory of Chiang Kai-shek, former President of the Republic of China. We have first heard about it because the memorial gave its name to one of the metro station on the red line. When we arrived on the site, the sun was setting. It was really beautiful and impressive. In fact, the place is large and it makes you feel really small.

The monument is surrounded by a peacefull and quiet park full of trees and flowers.

Chiang Kai-shek was a political and military leader who served as the leader of the Republic of China between 1928 and 1975. He was the president of the Republic of China for 25 years (from 1950 to 1975).

The roof of the memorial is blue and octagonal. This shape was chose because in Asia, the number eight is synonym of luck and abunance. There is also two sets of white stairs that each have 89 steps. That reminds the age of Chiang Kai-shek when he died.
